Welcome to the Vice Chancellor's Symposium website.
The Vice Chancellor’s Symposium is one of the premier events on Massey’s Professional Development calendar. Each year the theme for the Symposium is carefully chosen by the Vice Chancellor to place a focus on a key strategic initiative of the University and reflects the importance, effort and emphasis that Massey University is places into that particular area.
There are three elements which are critical to the VC Symposium format. There is the keynote speaker, someone who has the scholarship and credibility to motivate and inspire staff as well as illuminating the theme. There are the presentations and workshops by Massey staff which reflect examples of the excellent and innovative practice occurring at Massey University, and there are the interactive sessions which provide an opportunity for participants to engage in discussion and debate around the theme and to advance and develop ideas that will move the university forward.
A further element of the symposium format which has added to the value gained by participants is the resource package which the Symposium committee compiles and which every participant receives a copy of. The resources bring together current research, thinking, and practice relevant to the theme, informs participants, and enriches the symposium discussion.
The resources also provide a source of ideas and best practice which participants are able to draw on in the ongoing pursuit of excellence. The resources reflect the intention by covering practical, operational and theoretical dimensions of the symposium theme and also address strategic and policy areas.
The Symposium is a reflection of the Vice Chancellor’s interest in learning and teaching and the chosen theme is invariably topical and of interest to the Massey Community. It is hoped that all who participate in the Symposium, whether as presenter or audience member find it stimulating, perhaps provocative, and above all, of value and that it contributes to Massey’s ongoing commitment to excellence in teaching and learning.
